Alice J. Gavin Winneconne, Wisconsin Alice J. Gavin, age 94, of Winneconne, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh. She was born May 28, 1917, on a farm near Winneconne, daughter of the late Paul and Kathryn (Abell) Krings. Alice graduated from Winneconne High School, and the Oshkosh State Teacher's College with a B.S. degree in elementary education. She taught a total of 40 years at Marquette, Clintonville, and Winneconne schools before retiring in 1978. On November 5, 1942, Alice married Michael Gavin, and they were married by Fr. Walter Williams. Michael preceded Alice in death on September 8, 1987. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne, and the Wisconsin Retired Educator's Association. Alice is survived by one sister, Marjorie Goggins; many special nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law. Along with her parents and husband, Alice was also preceded in death by five brothers, Kenneth, Leo, John, Alvin, and Gerald Krings; and three sisters, Helen and Virginia Krings, and Ruth Herbst. A Funeral Mass for Alice will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr., Winneconne, with Fr. Doug LeCaptain and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Burial will be in the Winneconne Cemetery. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
