IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty E.
Opperman
July 16, 1932 – March 31, 2022
Betty E. Opperman, formerly of Winneconne, age 89, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at her residence, The Courtyard at Oshkosh, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Woodruff, Wisconsin, on July 16, 1932, the daughter of Franklin and Marie (Rousseau) Hunt. Betty graduated from Winneconne High School on June 2, 1950, where she was a cheerleader and played drums in the band. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Floyd R. Opperman, on December 1, 1951, in Winneconne, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Floyd and Betty enjoyed 65 years of marriage together and happily raised three daughters and one son. Betty had a long career in the banking industry and retired as Assistant Vice President of F & M Bank. Betty's most treasured accomplishment, however, was being a loving wife, mother, and Meema to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty was a long-time member of the Winneconne Civic League and had served as its President. She organized many Civic League Style Shows and looked forward to attending them yearly with her daughters, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Winneconne.
Betty cherished spending time at her and Floyd's summer home near Redgranite where she shared many happy times at "The Land" with her family. Upon retirement, Betty was F & M Bank's Prime Time Club tour guide director and organizer, and along with Floyd, she embarked on many memorable travels throughout the United States. Betty also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, reading, making puzzles, playing card games and computer games, but most of all she enjoyed keeping her family well-fed with her love of cooking.
Betty was blessed with four devoted and loving children, Connie (Mark) Henn, Redgranite, Nancy (Tom) Jirschele, Plover, Brenda (John) Bartow, Winneconne, and Keith (Pam) Opperman, Manitowoc. Betty was Meema to six grandchildren whom she adored, Nathan (Kimberly) Eid, Menasha, Rebecca (David) Landenberger, Escanaba, Michigan, Megan (Nick) Morison, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alanna (Roger) Morrison, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Jacob Opperman, Fond du Lac, Adam Opperman, Shorewood, as well as seven darling great-grandsons, Ryan, Christian and Brody Eid, Howard and Franklin Landenberger, and George and Mitchell Morison.
Betty is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Doraine Hale and Shirley Opperman, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents and her stepfather Arthur Johnson, siblings, Russell Hunt, Chauncey Hunt, Vivian Gartzke, Rosemary Weiland, David Hunt and Dianne Ratzburg.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, the Activity Director, and Chef Lance at The Courtyard at Oshkosh where she resided for the last 9 months, as well as Stephanie Tavs, APNP from Bluestone Physicians Group.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 8 South 4th Street, Winneconne, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., with a funeral service to follow. The family is requiring face masks be worn to protect their vulnerable family members. Burial will be at the Winneconne Cemetery following the funeral service.
