Obituary

Brigitte (Volk) Fuhs, age 86, Winneconne, passed away on July 27, 2026 at Country Villa Assisted Living in Omro, Wisconsin. Brigitte was born in Germany on March 13th, 1940 to Lotte Diebel.

Brigitte was a vibrant, friendly woman who was often found gabbing with her many friends, both German and American, whom she loved to visit with over the years. She was skilled in knitting, crocheting, cooking, and crafting. She spent many hours each spring tending to her flowers and photographing them. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, swimming at Little Silver Lake, thrifting at the local shops, and she could not pass up a banana split from The Well. She also loved to sing along to her German music while dancing in her kitchen.

Brigitte was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winneconne, WI.

Brigitte was a homemaker most of her life. She held a few jobs babysitting or cleaning houses for others. She very much enjoyed spending time with the kids she cared for. She was a seasonal employee of Miles Kimball many years ago. Brigitte took pride in earning her United States citizenship around 1987.

Brigitte met her husband, Robert, at a dance hall in 1959, while he was stationed in Germany during his time in the U.S. Army. They were married for 66 years during which time Robert lovingly called Brigitte “Marina”. Together, they raised four children. Through the years they gained 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

Brigitte is survived by her brother-in-law Lee (Betty) Mauritz, brother -in-law Howie and sister-in-law Judy (Benedict) Fuhs, daughter Carmen Fuhs, daughter Lisa and son-in-law Patrick Kerrigan, son Bryan and daughter-in-law Stephanie (Christianson) Fuhs, daughter Andrea and son-in-law Michael Farrell, grandchildren: Erin Kerrigan (Dan Rudkevitch), James (Ashley) Kerrigan, Dr. Ashli Ellis, Molly Kerrigan (Michael Orndoff), Evan (Emily) Fuhs, Baleigh (Mitchell) Dammen, Staff Seargent Jordan Fuhs, Lillian Fuhs, Landan Fuhs, Second Lieutenant Mikayla Farrell, Jenna Farrell, eight great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Brigitte was preceded in death by her husband Robert, mother Lotte Diebel, father- and mother-in-law Warren and Ella (Hunt) Fuhs, sister-in-law Mary (Fuhs) Johnson and brother-in-law Howard Johnson, and sister-in-law Betty (Fuhs) Mauritz.

The family is deeply appreciative of the care Brigitte received from Country Villa Assisted Living in Omro and St. Croix Hospice. All of her caregivers were wonderful and kind.

Brigitte will be buried with her husband Robert, who passed away in March. There will be a private family celebration of life.

Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, will be handling arrangements.
