Obituary

Donald Kunde, age 89, of Oshkosh passed away surrounded by his family at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah on Saturday, December 28, 2024. He was born on the Herman Kunde family farm June 3, 1935, in the Town of Vinland the first of four children of the late Earl and Gladys (Schuelke) Kunde. Don started his schooling at age 6 at Clemensville for four years because Vosberg County School was closed. Grades 5 and 6 were done at Allenville, with a fire at the Winneconne Community School 7th grade was moved to the church basement at St. Paul's, and 8th grade resumed at the new school being built.

Don later served in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged in April 1956. On February 23, 1957, Don married Patricia Rymer and together they had four children, John, Mark, Carol and Karen. Patricia preceded him in death on September 24, 2001. On November 12, 2016, Don married Lois Verch. Don worked for Bergstrom Paper, Wisconsin Implement, Reichenberger Home Improvement. After serving in the U.S. Army Don was enrolled in Vocational Farm Short Course where he went on to be a lifelong farmer, with a strong emphasis of preserving the land for future generations. Don served his community on the Vinland Town Board for 30 plus years, Cemetery Sexton, St Paul's Lutheran Church as president and deacon, area Historical Society and the American Legion Post 364. Don had many accomplishments, specifically being a Cargill Seed Dealer where he received the Circle of Excellence Award many times. His hobbies included playing in the Winnebago Lutheran Dartball League, bowling, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. Most of all he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Don is survived by: his wife, Lois; his children, John (Janet) and their family, Jenni (Nate) Kaegi, and their daughter, Hadlee Kaegi, Justin (Sami) Kunde and their children Kason and Anilynn Kunde and Jaclynn (friend, Alex) Kunde; Mark (Cheryl) Kunde and their family, Sarah (Jon) Walsh and their children, Kristopher and Chloe Walsh; Amanda (Branden) Schleif and their children, Emerson and Hayden Schleif; Stacey (Alex) Schoonover and their son, Zachary Schoonover; Mitchell (Katie) Kunde and their children, Lacey, Wade, Lindsie and Whitney Kunde; Rhonda Kunde; and Wanda (Corey) Drexler and their son, Weston Drexler; Carol (John) Luedtke and their family, Nicole (Mitch) Anklem and their son, Baker Anklem; Tricia Luedtke and Eric Luedtke; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy (Dale) Wilde; Lois' family, LuAnn Reber, Laurie Hoffman(partner, Jeff Martynski), David Hoffman and Lisa (David) Rainey and their children, Dustin and Abri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Karen Kunde; a grandson, Joshua Kunde; a great-granddaughter, Natalee Rose Kaegi; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Leslie Romberg and Betty and Ronald Achterberg.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 South 4th St., Winneconne. Rev. Darin Warnecke will officiate. The burial with military honors will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Neenah. A visitation will be held AT THE CHURCH on Friday, January 3 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

A memorial fund has been established.
