Obituary

Donna L. Schuettpelz, 95, a long-time resident of the Coleman and Suring area, and more recently Winneconne, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, after a short illness at the Eden Meadows skilled nursing facility in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Donna was born to John and Esther (Haessely) Sandberg of Mountain, Wisconsin on September 27, 1928, and was the eldest of six children. She grew up and attended Mountain High School, and graduated in 1945. She then attended and graduated from the Marinette Teachers College. Donna met and married Denver Schuettpelz (1925 - 2013) in 1949 and moved to Coleman, Wisconsin to raise her family. She was active in the Coleman school PTA, and enjoyed growing her vegetable and flower garden each year. She taught grade school for several years in Pound, and looked forward to perch fishing and berry picking during the summer.

Donna and Denver raised four children, Lynnea, Mike, Lisa, and Lanelle, who were born between 1950 and 1969.

In 1973, the family purchased a small convenience store and gas station north of Pound, Wisconsin and built the business into a successful retail location, and became well known in the area as a result. They lived in the house that was attached to the store. During that time Donna handled much of the business paperwork, and managed the day-to-day operation along with her husband. After selling the store in the late 1980's, the couple moved to a small hobbyfarm north of Pound, growing and selling sunflower seeds that they grew on their property.

Donna and Denver retired to Suring, Wisconsin in 1997 and were active in the local church to which they belonged. Donna enjoyed baking, quilting, and fishing with her husband. The couple also took may trips to events and shows across the Midwest.

After her husband passed away in 2013, Donna relocated to Winneconne, Wisconsin. She joined the Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church and was active in the quilting group from the church. She enjoyed baking and making dishes for family and friends. She spent many hours each week cutting and sewing quilt tops for the group, and was always happy to see more material that she could work on. She was also socially active at her apartment complex, and had many friends who visited her often during her later years.

Surviving Donna are three siblings, Bill Sandberg, Mary Gallagher, and Leon Sandberg; three children, Lynnea Kaminski, Mike Schuettpelz, and Lanelle (Doug) Waech; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents and husband, Donna was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Krejcarek; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Janice Sandberg, Marvin Sandberg, Dorothy Sandberg, Dena Sandberg.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne, Wisconsin. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Donna will be laid to rest next to her husband at the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hayes, Wisconsin at a later date.

Donna's family extends their appreciation to the staffs of Ascension Mercy Hospital-Oshkosh and Aurora Medical Center-Oshkosh for the care and support given to her.
