Obituary

Douglas "Digger" Joseph Schommer Douglas "Digger" Joseph Schommer died unexpectedly on April 21, 2012. Digger was born April 6, 1948 in New London, WI to Buck and Lorraine Schommer. He grew up in Shawano, WI and graduated from Shawano High School in 1966. In 1977 he moved to the Oshkosh Area, living in both Winneconne and Oshkosh. Digger spent most of his career working in the paper industry at Hoffmaster and SCA. Recently, Digger was an independent contractor for Dunham Express. Digger lived life to the fullest, always looking for a new adventure! He was a talented photographer and an outdoor enthusiast who spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and enjoying the peace and quiet of "Red River Camp" where he had a cabin. Digger loved traveling, flea markets, art shows, museums, and theatre. Everyone who knew Digger knew how proud he was of his children and grandchildren and he loved them with all his heart. Digger is survived by his wife and best friend, Deb Bartelt; his children: Erin Kohl (Timothy), Erica Schommer (Tino Gallegos), Amanda Bartelt-Goland (Kyle Dallman), and Carl Bartelt (fiancé Kim Baumann); his mother, Lorraine Schommer; his siblings: Bradford Schommer (Deb), Mary Moll (Gary), and Barb Phelps (Robert); his grandchildren: TJ, Evan, Anna, Graham, and Izabella; Bob Bartelt and many hunting buddies; and aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Digger has joined his father, Buck Schommer, where they are surely exchanging hunting and fishing tales. Digger was generous in sharing his talents, advice, and love. Though he was taken too soon from us, everyone who knew him will cherish the memories they made with him. Please join his family in celebrating his life on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. when a memorial service will be held at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne.
