Ellen Mae Newman, 90, died peacefully at her beloved farm surrounded by family on January 28, 2021. The youngest child of Elbern Parsons AKA Elbern Craig and Libbie (née Harris) Parsons, Ellen was born on May 6, 1930, in Holland, Michigan. An avid equestrian, Ellen got her first pony when she was nine years old.

When Ellen was ten, her family moved to Lansing, Michigan. As a teenager, Ellen rode horses at the United States Army Cavalry stables on the Michigan State College campus. There she met Neil, her devoted husband of 70 years, where he was working his way through college. They both graduated from Michigan State College, Ellen with a degree in education.

In 1972, Ellen and her husband relocated to Omro, Wisconsin after Neil, a mechanical engineer, began working at Mercury Marine. Ellen thoroughly enjoyed living on her farm with her horses, dogs, cats, and birds. She was blessed with a loving supportive circle of equestrian friends and wonderful neighbors.

Ellen's greatest joy was riding her horses. Her book, Shorten Your Stirrups - Give Him His Head, tells of the horses she had the pleasure to know starting with her pony Billy. As a young woman, Ellen was a competitive rider in both Hunter and Jumper events. Later she took up Dressage for pleasure and at age 81 was the first person in Wisconsin to complete the United States Dressage Federation Century Ride.

Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Parsons; and sisters, Anna Laura (Fred) Smith, and Arla (Bill) Jones.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Neil Newman, Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh, Wisconsin; her daughter, Charlotte Newman, Oak Park, Illinois; and her sons, Craig (Paula Srite) Newman, Madison, Wisconsin; and Glenn (Erika Dillon) Newman, Barrington Hills, Illinois.

Due to Coronavirus pandemic, memorial services are not scheduled at this time. Mueller Funeral Home-Winneconne is assisting the family.
