Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Jacqueline VanAsten, age 86, of Neenah, on Monday December 29, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home due to complications of a stroke. She was born on July 22, 1939 in Oshkosh, to Gordon and Barbara Thiex and graduated from Winneconne High School in 1955. She was married for 58 years to Guyland VanAsten until his death on December 22, 2016.

She wore many hats during her lifetime; daughter, sister, niece, aunt, wife, mother grandmother, great grandmother, friend but she was so much more than that. She stayed home and raised 4 children while keeping books for her husband’s businesses, tended a hobby farm with her family which grew to a deer farm, grew a huge garden and canned to help feed her family. She worked many jobs during her lifetime from working in an insurance office, driving school bus, among other jobs, to finally retiring from Plexus Corp after many years. While working at Plexus she met a group of ladies, dear to her heart, that she referred to as “breakfast with the girls”. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, traveling throughout the United States, a mission trip to Romania, birdwatching, people watching and was never one to turn down any type of adventure. She was very proud of becoming a member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Nekimi in 2020 where she gained a new family and became involved with Ruby’s Pantry.

She is survived by her children Tim (Diane) VanAsten, Jody VanAsten, Kalyn (Brett) Olson, ten grandchildren Tyler, Bree, Johanna, Jonathan, Jennifer, Jacob, Kane, Claire, Taryn, Tanner, 19 great-grandchildren, siblings, Peter (Nancy) Thiex, and Lucine (Randy) Rieckman, daughter-in-law Lori VanAsten, foster son Bruce Leitzke (special friend Shiela Kahler) and her very special companion Dale Wiechman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Guyland, son Dean, and sister Nancy Jacobson.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 7, 2026 at Mueller Funeral Home (904 E. Main St. Winneconne) at 7 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
