Jean Ellen (McAuley) Martin, 88, of Omro, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Country Villa in Omro. She was born at home in Oshkosh to the late Tracy and Winifred (Anderson) McAuley on November 9, 1935.

Jean attended Oshkosh schools and was a 1953 graduate of Oshkosh High School. She was a 1956 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On October 8, 1958, Jean married David A. Martin and they lived their entire married lifetime outside of Omro. Jean's entire nursing career of 34 years was at Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where she held many positions, retiring as Assistant Director of Nursing. She was brought up in the Algoma United Methodist Church in Oshkosh until joining Grace Lutheran Church in Omro in 1982, where she was active in Ladies Guild, mission quilting, choir, coordinating the prayer chain, and serving on various committees. Jean volunteered at the Omro Thrift Store, and enjoyed bowling, boating, and snowmobiling when younger.

She loved antiques/primitives, especially those that were handed down through their families. She knitted, crocheted, embroidered, and made over 100 sets of caps/mittens for premature infants. Jean also dabbled with crafts, but loved to do hand stitched wall hangings. She loved her flower beds, feeding the wild birds and going to the paper box each morning, seeing the deer start their trek from their woods across the road to the river. Jean loved all music, especially country. She was also deeply involved in her genealogical research.

Jean is survived by three children, Lisa Johnson, David "Butch" (Laura) Martin, Gretchen (Phil) Ertmer; grandchildren, Rachel (Josh), Josh (Terah), Nickie, Michael (Jessica), Elizabeth, Erin Jean, Bradley (Olivia), Brandt (Katie); great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Cohen, Evie, Daniel, Olive, Brynn, and Ryker; and other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, David Martin; a son, Daniel Martin; son-in-law, Mark Johnson; brothers, Robert and John; a sister, Patricia along with their spouses; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Howard Wolfe.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church 720 Jackson Ave. Omro. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Wenzel officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
