Obituary

John Martin Buser, 83, of Winneconne died Friday, June, 9, 2023, surrounded by his family at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh.

John was born November 7, 1939, to the late Earl and Olga (Schmoker) Buser. He was a 1958 graduate of Winneconne High School and later attended UW-Madison and UW-Oshkosh.

On August 14, 1965, John married Sandra Firle and they enjoyed nearly 58 years of marriage.

In 1966 John enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and was discharged in 1969. In his earlier years, John was a foreman at Zimmerman Mink Ranch and in 1969 joined his father-in-law, Arnold, at Firl Industries/Fond du Lac Tent and Awning. He became president of Firl and later purchased the business in 1982. He loved his 50 years in business and retired in 2019.

John was a member of Ridgeway Country Club for 47 years. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winneconne, Upper Midwest Canvas Association, Fond du Lac Rotary Club, Winneconne Men's Club, Winneconne Masonic Lodge 186, and Ducks Unlimited. He proudly served as President of both Upper Midwest Canvas Association and Winneconne Men's Club.

In John's free time, he enjoyed deer hunting with his friends in City Point, spending time at the family cabin in Crivitz, duck hunting at the family farm, and fishing in Winneconne, the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and Lake Erie. He also enjoyed playing golf whenever he could.

John is survived by his wife, Sandy; his children, Jeff (Bill), of Menasha; Marty (Julie), of Winneconne; and John (Katie), of Winneconne; his grandchildren, Tyler Buser, Natalie Buser, Mason Buser, Burke Buser, and Ella Buser. He is further survived by a sister, Lorraine Seeman, of Marshfield; his nieces, Joni Peterson and Juli Bartell; great-niece, Heidi (Andrew) Topping; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and Kurth Krause, of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA.

Along with his parents, John was also preceded in death by Sandy's parents, Arnold and Meta Firle; and numerous close friends and relatives.

John's family would like to thank the staff at Aurora Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care and to all family and friends for their calls, texts and emails. He will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will be at a later date at the Winneconne Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to or made to the First Presbyterian Church-Winneconne or the Winneconne Area Assistance Center in John's name.
