John S. Eid, age 88, of Winneconne, died peacefully on April 4, 2016, at Oakwood Assisted Living, Oshkosh. He was born May 8, 1927, in Northfield, WI to Carl and Hulda (Gilbertson) Eid. John graduated from Sparta High School, Wisconsin State College of Stevens Point with a degree in education, and the University -Oshkosh with a Master's Degree in Business Administration. John served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II. John married Marjorie Hales on August 25, 1948, in Granton, WI. John and Marge moved to Winneconne to start their teaching careers. He was employed in many different areas over his lifetime including: Winneconne Schools, Blue Crown Spark Plugs, J.I. Case, Oshkosh Motor Truck, UW-Oshkosh, and Fox Valley Technical College. John enjoyed visiting Road America, Elkhart Lake, every summer for racing. He also enjoyed Packer games and Nascar and Indy Racing. John loved to explore and travel to places like Key West, San Francisco, Boston and Alaska. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. John researched and wrote of railroads and steam ships of the area. He worked extensively at the Winneconne Historical Society. He also volunteered every summer at the EAA Air Show in Oshkosh. John is survived by two sons: Jim Eid and Marie Carow, Exeland; Jerry Eid, Neenah; a daughter Jane and David Lupo, Menasha; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie; three brothers, Charles, Richard and Merlyn; two brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law. A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Ben Berger officiating. Military honors will follow. Burial will be in the Winneconne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up for the Winneconne Historical Society. John's family would like to thank the staffs of Oakwood Manor and Heartland Hospice and Pastor Mark Albrecht and Pastor Benjamin Berger, for all the care and support shown to John and his family.
