John G. Meinen, of Winneconne, passed away at home with his family by his side on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at the age of 89. He was born in Oshkosh to the late John and Emma Meinen. John served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps., Semper Fi, a way of life he lived and taught his children. For 64 years John was married to Rita Meinen and they had five children. He was a farmer, a maintenance man, and later ran Meinen Sanitation for 25 years for the Village of Winneconne. He was a jack of all trades and master of many. John loved people and talked to everyone and anyone, and he loved a good joke. John and Rita enjoyed traveling with friends, and he loved gambling, playing games with his children, and he was the Rummikub champion.

Preceding John in death were his parents, his wife, Rita, and other relatives.

John is survived by five children, Robert (Joy) Meinen, Leann Meinen (Frank), Chris Meinen, Steve (Margareta) Meinen, Jon (Melissa) Meinen; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Zemke, Karey (Luke) Schmoker, Brooke (Thomas) Lilach, Brady Yonke; great-grandchildren, Levi and Austin Zemke, Gavin and Sawyer Schmoker; and other relatives and friends.

Per John's wishes there will be no funeral service held. Interment will be in the Plummer Cemetery, Oshkosh. Mueller Funeral Home-Winneconne is assisting the family.

John's family wishes to thank all of the people who stopped to chat with him at his home or when he was out on his scooter observing Winneconne.
