Obituary

On April 15, 2023, John "Jack" Thomas Quigley passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He will be remembered for his love of family, his quick wit and encyclopedic knowledge of history.

He was born in Winneconne, Wisconsin on November 29, 1935, to Genevieve Susan Martin and Thomas Raymond Quigley. He grew up in Winneconne on his family farm. Jack attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, served in the Air Force, and eventually became a professor of Engineering.

In 1964 Jack joined the University of Wisconsin Extension Engineering. He directed 2-5 day long civil and environmental engineering short courses that provided training to thousands of professionals who designed, operated, and regulated public water, wastewater treatment, on-site waste handling, and industrial pollution control systems from Wisconsin and throughout the U.S. He led major training projects for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and had short term assignments in Kenya, Philippines, and other international locations. Over the years he also provided training at a distance through correspondence courses, statewide telephone networks, satellite delivery, and internet. In each instance Jack did his best to help students accomplish their jobs better and in turn provide a better environment.

In the late 1980's Prof. Quigley was Chair of Engineering Professional Development for several years and in 2005 transitioned to the Emeritus Faculty.

Degrees - University of Wisconsin-Madison

After retiring from the University, Jack moved back to the family farm in Winneconne, now a Wisconsin Century farm. Jack and Marisue enjoyed many years of retirement there. He was an active member of the Winneconne Knights of Columbus, and they were regulars on Friday night at Biggar's Supper Club.
