Marguerite B. Wentzel, age 96 of Winneconne passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh. Marguerite was born May 5, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan to Oscar and Susan (Clark) Berry. She graduated high school at age 16 then attended Millikin College in Decatur, Illinois and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She worked at the Phillip Morris Company in Detroit and then at The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Marguerite enlisted in the Red Cross during World War II and was assigned to the Mediterranean Field of Operations in Italy. It was during her time in the Red Cross that she met Vera Kitchen, who introduced her to Winneconne and her future husband. On March 24, 1948, Marguerite married the love of her life Gordon Wentzel in Detroit, Michigan, and they made their home on their farm on the east side of Winneconne. Marguerite was the bookkeeper for the Arrowhead Restaurant in Winneconne, then in 1952 Gordon purchased the Ford dealership in Winneconne, and she worked at Wentzel Ford for many years in whatever capacity she was needed, from doing the bookkeeping, to picking up car parts, to helping to host the open houses at the dealership, which is now owned by her son. Marguerite was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Winneconne and served as an Elder. She also served on the Winneconne School Board as Secretary and the Cooperative Education Service Agency (CESA 8). She was a member of the Eastern Star, Winneconne East Side Homemakers, and a lifetime member of Winneconne Civic League. Marguerite and Gordon enjoyed traveling, and visited many different countries. They also like to spend winter months in Palm Desert, California. She also enjoyed oil painting, and entertaining & taking caring of family and friends. Marguerite is survived by a daughter, Susan (Loren) Zell of Lubbock, Texas; a son, Berry (Paula) Wentzel of Winneconne; two grandchildren, Christopher Zell of Lubbock, Texas; and Brian (TaLisha) Zell of Oxford, Iowa; three great-granddaughters, Aubry, Alethea, and Arianna Zell of Oxford, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ila Zimmerman of Palm Desert, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gordon, in 2009; four brothers-in-law, Clarence Wentzel, Berl Springer, John Bingen, and Myrle "Red" Zimmerman; and four sisters-in-law, Mavis Bingen, Vera Kitchen, Vicki Wentzel, and Emily Springer. A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mara Rivera officiating. Burial will follow in the Winneconne Cemetery.
