Obituary

Nancy Ann (Matulle) Herbst passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the age of 63.

Preceding Nancy in death were her mother, Phyllis Matulle; and step-mother, Donna Matulle; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Ruth Herbst; and brother, Ken Matulle.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Herbst; daughters, Kayla Taylor (Scott), Amy (Justin) Wolf; and son, Ryan (Laura) Herbst; her grandchildren, Leo, Clayton, and Everett Wolf; Sam and Bennett Herbst; sisters, Darlene Brandt and Jeri (Mike) Perschbacher; brothers, Wayne Matulle and Mike (Leisa) Shea; her father, Marv Matulle; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nancy grew up locally in Omro, WI, where she excelled at sports and broke state basketball records. Marrying Tom in 1993, gave her the greatest sense of what unconditional love was. She made a career at Oshkosh Truck as a computer programmer and demonstrated how strong her work ethics were as an employee, mom, and wife as to how to get things done. Nancy is a devoted, loving person that was selfless and found ways to always have things organized. If there was any decoration you knew was in their house it was a snowman. Nancy actively volunteered at Julie's Touch of Silver to support Kayla and the twirling team, as the "chaperone mom." She was also a faithful Christian at St. Paul's Lutheran Church throughout her years.

Anyone who attended a gathering of hers knew the appetizers were of abundance and you were full before the meal. Her 'honey to do list' always brought a smile and the color of Allis-Chalmers orange is one she grew to love. Nancy made an impact on everyone, even to the point to her last years of telling people, "No chocolate." She was always involved in her children's and grandchildren's activities, and planned with Tom their retirement years.

Her life was cut short by a rare form of dementia and her loss is a sign that she can finally have 'her breath.' The way she taught people to love and always strive to be your best will outlast her time on earth. If there is anything that could be told to her today, it would be, "You taught us well." Nancy was patient and kind, without envy, dishonor, nor one to keep the records of the wrongs. She will forever be remembered and always told, "I love you."

A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church 8 S. 4th St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Cremation will follow and interment will be at a later date at the St. Thomas Cemetery-Poygan.
