Obituary

Patrick Alan Kautza, known affectionately as Pat, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on February 22, 1940, in Eau Claire, he spent his formative years in Omro, graduating from Omro High School.

Pat's early career involved various odd jobs. He later found his true calling after his father's passing as the owner of Sherm's grocery stores, where he was well-respected and beloved by the communities of Omro, Princeton and Redgranite.

A devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wautoma, Pat's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and relationships. He and Jean enjoyed wintering in Arizona and showing their visitors every corner of the state. He was a man of many interests and hobbies, including golfing, hobby farming his mini horses, and playing Sheepshead with anyone who knew (or didn't know) the game. Pat was also an avid sports fan, always ready to cheer for the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and Bucks.

Pat was known for his generous spirit, often insisting on picking up the tab, embodying his kind, loving, and generous nature. His legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Jean Kautza; daughter, Joyel Barnard; son, Bart (Kim) Kautza; step-children, Jeff and Danielle Zarling; sister, Kay Ann Heavener; brother, Tim (Lisa) Kautza; brother-in-law, Bill (Gail) Miller. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Nathan (Caitlin) Barnard, Katie (Theo) Twet, Libby Kautza, Bryce Barnard, Jake Kautza; step-grandson, Dereck Zarling; his eight precious great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Katie Kautza.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Compassus Hospice for their kind compassionate care and Fr. Joe Mattern for the beautiful vigil at the perfect time.

Per Pat's wishes, a private Mass will be held. Pat's life and spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
