Obituary

Dick Oberts, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 28, 2014, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah surrounded by his family. He was born on September 20, 1930, in Washburn Wisconsin, son of Sigmund and Jean (Westlund) Oberts. On November 5, 1951, Dick married Marilyn McDougall in Ashland, Wisconsin. They left the north woods to live in Waupun and then chose to raise their family in Winneconne. After serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, Dick became a state employee, retiring in 1989 as Director of Food Service from Winnebago Mental Health Institute. After retirement, Dick and Marilyn enjoyed traveling, including many trips abroad. More than anything, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family. Other interests included wooden boats, playing cribbage, bingo, and tinkering with his old radios. An occasional trip to the casino put a twinkle in his eyes. Dick is survived by his wife Marilyn and their four children, Kay (Bob) Keehan, of Menasha; Dick (Karen) Oberts, of Winneconne; Dan (Mardell) Oberts, of Winneconne; and Lauri (Dave) Steffes, of Poygan. He is further survived by ten grandchildren and two great -grandchildren. Dick is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine Beirl, of Ashland; and LaVerne Obernader, of New Berlin; one sister-in-law, Jean Kluge, of Florida; one brother in-law, Dan (Jue`)McDougall, of Illinois, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in in death by his parents; and two brothers, Arthur, of Rockford, Illinois; and Gordon, of Beloit. The family would like to thank the care team of the 5th floor at Theda Clark Hospital. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Jody Mittelstaedt, Kelly Lamers, and Rebecca Derleth for their compassionate care and friendship. A private family service was held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne and military honors and burial followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Poygan. Dick's family would also like to thank the members of the Winneconne American Legion Post 364 honor guard for the military honors provided at the cemetery.
