Richard "Dick" L. Schaeffer, age 71, of Omro, died Sunday evening, August 2, 2015. He was born October 9, 1943, in Freeport, Illinois to the late Donald and Bernice (Mergen) Schaeffer. On November 9, 1972, Dick married Elsie Peters Westphal. He was self-employed doing construction. Dick was a hard-working, good provider for his family who never missed a day of work no matter what. Dick raced competition dogs earning many awards, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was blessed with many good friends. Dick is survived by his wife, Elsie Schaeffer, of Omro; children, Rick (Darlene) Westphal, of Berlin; Troy (Theresa) Westphal, of Poy Sippi; Blanche Westphal, of Appleton; Dawn (Ron) Close, of Omro; Donald Westphal, of Wautoma; twenty-three grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary (Nancy) Schaeffer, of Rudolph; very good friend, Johnny; and other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Dick was also preceded in death by a son, David Schaeffer. A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, August 6, 2015, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. There will be no funeral service held.
