Obituary

Ruebin "Chubby" Olson, age 89, of the Town of Clayton, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at home. He was born February 15, 1925, in the Town of Clayton to the late Henry and Laura (Sauby) Olson. On September 22, 1948, Ruebin married Lois Strusinske at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Clayton. Along with farming he had also worked at the Maple Leaf Dairy, Winters Cheese Factory, Neenah Foundry, and the ASC office. Chubby was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Clayton, having served as church president, an elder, counsel member, and treasurer. He was also an active member of the Larsen/Winchester Lion's Club, helping build 828 wheelchair ramps, and he earned the Lions Club highest award, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, as well as the Birch-Sturm Fellowship Award, and in 2007 Ruebin and Dick Metzig were co-awarded the Health Care Volunteer of the Year presented by Affinity Health Care and ThedaCare. Chubby enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, bowling, and was a Green Bay Packers stockholder. For over 25 years he and Lois supported the Christian Children's Fund in Honduras, and supported children in Afghanistan, Africa, and Honduras for many years. Ruebin is survived by his three children, Donna (Todd) Allen, of Oshkosh; Jim Olson, of San Jose, Costa Rica; Julie (Ed) Kromm, of Omro; eight grandchildren, Katie (Pat) Gratton, Amanda Allen, Adam (Leonella) Olson, Jason Olson, Stephanie (Eric) Hawkins, Kari Ann (Brad) Bathke, Nicholas Kromm, Laura Kromm; four great-grandchildren, Madeline and Alex Gratton, Akwa Mia Olson, Jackson Hawkins; two sisters, Shirley Jacob, of Larsen; Lois Seelow, of Neenah; a special niece, Kay Peterson, of Winneconne; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Along with his parents, Chubby was also preceded in death by his wife Lois on December 25, 2014; a daughter-in-law, Rosa Olson; seven sisters and four brothers, Ruth Peterson, Orrin Olson, Doris Lenz, Beatrice Johnson, May Herman, Donald Olson, Bayward Olson, Leo Olson, Marjorie Olson, Ginny Winter, and Bonny Borchert. A visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 3703 Fairview Rd. Neenah, and will continue on Wednesday, January 28at the church from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Paul Meier officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Larsen/Winchester Lions Club.
