Obituary

Russell "Russ" F. Tritt, Jr. was called home to the Lord unexpectedly on November 4, 2016. He was born January 6, 1940, in Waukegan, Illinois to Russell F. Sr. and June (Stafford) Tritt. Russell was the eldest of eight children. He worked the family farm throughout his childhood up until graduating from Omro High School in 1959. Immediately following his graduation, Russell started his military career in the United States Army where he served for 20 years. During his extensive military career, Russell was stationed in Germany as well as several state-side bases. His greatest service came when he was called into combat during the Vietnam war. He served for three tours, was wounded in battle, received two Purple Heart medals and was awarded five Bronze Star medals for his valor as well as receiving the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He retired from service in 1979 where he was serving in the Army's 1st Calvary division stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. For preservation and remembrance of all soldiers who served in foreign wars, Russell had donated his military dress uniform to the Omro Historical Society where it can be viewed to this day. After his retirement from the military, Russell moved his family back to Omro, WI where he most notably worked construction as a heavy equipment operator and continued to help his farming family and friends. He was extremely well-known in his community for his work ethic, helpful nature, and sharp wit. His greatest enjoyments in life were the company of family and friends, hunting (especially out west), fishing, his horse Rebel, a good pair of cowboy boots, trips to the casino and, above all, a good game of cards at his favorite local establishments. He is survived by daughter, Tania Tritt-Kuhr and her husband Jason Kuhr; son, Ira Tritt; two grandchildren, "the twins" Mason and Josie; Goddaughter, Stephanie Nachtrab; special niece and 500 rummy pal, Marcia "Stretch" Nachtrab; sister and best friend, Gloria (Richard) Nachtrab; nephews, Calvin, Victor, and Douglas Nachtrab; favorite cousin, Larry Tritt, who was looked upon as a brother by Russell, Larry's wife, Connie Tritt and their daughters Erin and Megan "Meg Pie"; sisters, Kathleen "Kitty" Henry, and Susan Daggett; brothers David (Cindy), Phillip, and Christopher (Tonya) Tritt; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; dearest brother, Timothy "TJ"; and niece, Janet Nachtrab. We would like to acknowledge Russell's special friend, Donna, who was also called home unexpectedly to the Lord on November 4, 2016, and extend our deepest sympathies and offer our sincerest condolences to her family and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne, where military honors will be performed at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Poygan.
