IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sally Ann
Peterson
August 7, 0937 – December 1, 2025
Sally Ann (nee Verbeten) Peterson, 88, of Winneconne transitioned peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh with her family at her side. Sally was born to Paul and Martha (Verhagen) Verbeten in Milwaukee on August 7, 1937.
Sally attended Devine Savior High School in Milwaukee graduating in 1955. As a child she spent most summers at the family cottage on Lake Winneconne, eventually meeting a young man from Winneconne, Dale E. Peterson, whom she would marry on October 6, 1956. They made their permanent home in Winneconne where she became a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Sally began working for the Winneconne School District in 1966, first as the school baker and eventually purchasing school busses alongside her husband and established Peterson Buses which took her through retirement.
Volunteering was a big part of her life, chairing the annual brat and smelt fries at St. Mary's, teaching religious education classes and eventually overseeing the entire religious education program. Along with her friend Barbara Breister, she and other ladies of St. Mary's began cooking weekly meals for Fr. Carr's Place 2B feeding the less fortunate in the community. When Father Carr relocated to the west side of Oshkosh, the dedicated group decided that they would take their culinary skills over to the Salvation Army where they felt they could serve the most in need. Sally was asked to be a board member for the Salvation Army, which she proudly accepted. Through it all she refused to accept any acknowledgement for her services, stating if you need acclamation for doing positive things it wasn't coming from a genuine place in your heart.
Sally is survived by her son Michael (Brenda) Peterson; a daughter Joan (Jeffrey) Keltesch; along with grandchildren Beth Graham, Paul Peterson, Adam and Noah Keltesch. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Amanda and Jackson Graham; a brother Robert Verbeten; sister-in-law Lupita Bejar Verbeten; along with several dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; parents Martha and Paul Verbeten; grandson Jacob Keltesch; and brother William Verbeten. She is further preceded by her in-laws Theresa and Lafe Peterson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Arlyn Schano, Dolores and Edgar Domske as well as Milton and Bonnie Peterson.
A visitation will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Drive, Winneconne, WI. on Saturday December 6, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed immediately by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Following Mass burial will be in the Winneconne Cemetery.
