Steve E. Witte, age 61, of Auburndale, Wisconsin, formerly of Winneconne died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at University Hospital in Madison, with his family by his side. He was born July 22, 1954, to the late Robert and Dorothy (Stutz) Witte. He was a 1972 graduate of Winneconne High School. Steve's work career began in farming before going on to work for American Excelsior in Oshkosh, Wagner's in Winneconne, and from 1981 until 2010 as a custodian for the Winneconne Community School District. After his illness in 2010 he moved to Auburndale and since 2012 Steve has lived with his sister and brother-in-law. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trips every year to Canada with friends, and spending time with friends at the cabin up north. Steve also liked to play cards, watch sports on TV, visiting with people, and bird watching. Steve is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Duane Hoernke, of Auburndale; a brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Susan Witte, of Redgranite; nephews and niece, Brian Hoernke, of Spencer, Wisconsin; R.J. Witte, of Redgranite; Stephanie Witte, of West Bend; and two great-nieces, and two great-nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, July 22, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. There will be no service held. Cremation will follow.
