Obituary

Steven Anthony Gaschler, of Neenah, Wisconsin passed away on December 22, 2017, at American Grand Assisted Living Suites, Neenah. Steve was born October 13, 1949, in Appleton, Wisconsin the son of Anton and Shirley (Landskron) Gaschler. He was baptized and confirmed at Saint Matthew's Church, Appleton. On July 13, 1968, Steve married Kathleen L. Marohn at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah; they have been married for 49 years. He worked for Banta, Menasha; Rayovac, Appleton; and Akrosil, Menasha. During his years at Akrosil he was very active in their union. After working in mills for years, Steve went to school to obtain his Class "A" CDL and worked for Bennett Transportation, driving cross-country delivering recreation vehicles. This turned out to be his most enjoyable job, retiring in January, 2016. While working for Bennett Transportation, he was given yearly awards for safe driving and numerous miles logged each year. Steve loved college Badger football and basketball. He never missed a game in over 50 years (he was a Badger fan before being a Badger fan was even popular!). His second love of life was going to the casino with his wife Kathy. He and Kathy enjoyed going on small vacations, especially to St. Ignace, Michigan for the weekend. Many weekends were also spent at Tony and Shirley's cottage on Bailey Lake, Waupaca. Everyone came, enjoyed a few beers and had a good time. Steve and his brother and sisters were very close. This was a good chance for Becki, Krista, and Jeremy to see their cousins and everyone had a good time fishing and swimming. All of the grandchildren will remember how Grandpa Tony built huge bonfires so they roast their marshmallows with a 12-foot stick. He loved a good joke and had a fantastic sense of humor...his children take right after him! Steve was always good to his Marohn family too...he bowled on his father-in-law's Marohn Bus Service team and that team earned many trophies. He was close to all of his family and loved the yearly get-togethers at reunions and Christmas. Surviving are his wife, Kathy "White", and children: Becki (Brian) Ehrenberg, Krista Gaschler (Nguyen Huynh), and Jeremy (Angela), Gaschler, all of Neenah; grandchildren: Taylor Ehrenberg, Alex Gaschler, Tierney Ehrenberg, and Autumn Gaschler. Also surviving are his sisters: Patricia (Tim) Hurley, and Susan (Mike) Heenan, both of Appleton; Steve's niece and nephews: Larry Gaschler, Jr., Tracy Barnes, and Nicholas Heenan; sisters-in-law, Jean Spiegelberg, Carol Nagel; and brothers-in-law, James (Patti) Marohn, Paul Marohn, and Mark (Candy) Marohn, all of Neenah; and Tom (Kay) Marohn, of Appleton; and many cousins. Preceding Steve in death were his father and mother, Tony and Shirley Gaschler; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Vivian (Bockin) Marohn; a brother, Larry Gaschler, Sr.; sister-in-law, Joyce (Marohn) Brantmeier; brothers-in-law, Robert Spiegelberg and Mike Brantmeier According to Steve's wishes, a private service will be held at a later date. Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, is in charge of arrangements. The family wishes to thank the staffs of: Heartland Hospice of Green Bay (especially Sara and Kristina); Peabody Manor, Menasha; American Grand Assisted Living Suites, Neenah; Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology Appleton; and especially to Dr. Anthony Phillips (who was Steve's favorite doctor) and all of the nurses.
