Thomas (Tom) J. Egan, age 71, of Omro, died peacefully at home with his family by his side, on July 31, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on February 27, 1955, in Omro, to Gerald and Mary Egan. He attended Berlin High School. Tom was a proud sixty plus year member of the Flying Mane Riding Club and met his wife, Lynn, through their shared love of horses. Together they spent many wonderful years running Homestead Stables and showing horses. He always dreamed of having a driving horse and later in life he made that dream a reality and was seen driving his horse and cart down the roads in Waukau.

Tom began his career at the Eureka FS Feed Mill, working his way up to Manager and later working for Gallow-West as a fieldman for many years. On the weekends you could find him Auctioneering for his partner-owned company, Wisconsin Auction Service.

Throughout his life Tom held a strong commitment to his community and had a passion for serving others. A dedicated 4 H leader, Tom was elected to the Winnebago County Fair Board in 1979 and went on to serve as its President for an extraordinary 30 years from 1988 until his retirement in 2018. His devotion to public service extended well beyond the fairgrounds. In 1984 he was elected Supervisor for the Town of Rushford, later serving as Chairman from 1998 to 2026. His leadership continued at the county level when he was elected to the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors in 2008. He served as Vice Chair from 2018 to 2022 and as Chairman from 2022 to 2026 contributing his time and expertise to numerous county committees. From 2019 to 2025 he served on the Omro Board of Education, including five years as President.

In his family life, Tom loved being a dad. He went to every sporting event for his boys and supported all Omro Sports. You could always find him in the stands at an Omro boys or girls basketball game. He served as President of the Omro Backboard Club while his boys were in school. During the last 6 years of Tom’s life, he took on his favorite role of being a grandfather to his four grandchildren. He especially loved taking them for rides on the four wheeler and treating them to lunch at the Flying Mane Riding Club just down the road.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lynn (Simonis); two sons, Scott (Betsy) Egan and Steven (Nicole) Egan and grandchildren, Ames, Atwell, Braelon, and Hadley; his sister, Donna (Kenneth) Weitz. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bernie, Lea and Lawrence.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose presence shaped his community. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6 from 4-7 pm at the Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, with a short prayer service following. Visitation continues from 9-11 am on Friday, August 7, at St. Mary’s Church, Winneconne, with a mass to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards the purchase of a memorial bench in Tom’s honor at the Winnebago County Fairgrounds. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
