Obituary

Dr. Timothy Owen McGinnis, son of Thomas Edward McGinnis and Dolores Summers McGinnis Besaw, passed away on September 24, 2024, at 70 years old. He was the father of eight children, and 14 grandchildren. In 1981 he started his chiropractic practice in Winneconne on the west side of the river.

Dr. Tim met and married Cindy Ott; daughter of the late Joseph and Sally Ott, siblings Terry, Bonnie, Tom, Bill, Colleen, Julie, Peggy, Wendy, Mary, John, Sarah, Daniel, Rebekah and Joanna; in 1983, moving into the present McGinnis Chiropractic Office on east Main St. (then a home-office) in 1986 with his wife and two young children. His oldest sons, Dr. Samuel (Kristen) and Dr. Michael (Emily), eventually took over his practice in 2022 after Dr. Tim had suffered a stroke.  Dr. Tim loved his patients, pouring himself into helping them heal, and making home visits for shut-ins when needed. He was an involved father to his three sons and five daughters, Jenny (Paul) Laatsch, Jessica, Jackie, Samuel (Kristen), Michael (Emily), Dolores, Sean, Katie.  Tim and his wife Cindy home schooled but also had their children involved with the Winneconne Public School.

Dr. Tim enjoyed fishing, campfires, Green Bay Packers, hunting birds with his dogs, and much more. Tim made his faith a central part of his life. He started his church journey at Appleton Family Fellowship, to his current church family at Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh where his daughter Jackie is the music director and Pastor Jeff Knoll a long-standing beloved friend. He was a coach to his sons in wrestling, rolled up his sleeves and helped put up the first greenhouse with Jenny, was on the skid loader moving gravel and pallets of soilless mix for Jessica's greenhouse business, provided sound equipment and the use of his truck for Jackie with the community theatre, brought Dolly and Katie to work in his office, personally training them, and took Sean to Stormer Lake in Canada twice fishing. Dr. Tim always put in his oar when the family would have singing engagements.

Tim McGinnis died in the arms of his wife, Cindy, in their home. He has filled his years well and gone on to join his three children that went before him. His surviving mother, Dolores Besaw, and his brothers and sisters, Patrick (Susan), Kelly (Tom), Sean (Lisa) and Colleen (Mark), not only gave their time and love to stay with him on a regular basis, but also were very dear to his heart. He will be missed.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church 400 N. Sawyer St. Oshkosh. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Jeff Knoll officiating.
