Mark D. Severson, age 74 of Fox Crossing, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by his family at Ascension Columbia St Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee after a short but courageous health battle.

Mark was born on January 27, 1951, in Manitowoc to the late Patricia and Erwin “Clyde” Severson Jr. He lived a life marked by service, strength, and a deep devotion to those he loved. After high school, he answered the call of duty and proudly served in the United States Army fighting for his country in the Vietnam War. Following his honorable military service, he continued to dedicate himself to the protection of others as a police officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, serving his community with integrity, bravery, and compassion.

Beyond his service to his community and his country, Mark was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He loved spending his time fishing and snowmobiling and could most often be found enjoying a round of golf. But more than anything, Mark’s favorite things involved his family. Be it traveling with the love of his life, Kelly, supporting his daughters Erin and Brittney in any endeavor they took on, working on house projects with his son-in-law Kyle, or sitting in the front row for all his grandson’s activities – he was our protector, source of laughter and wisdom, and most of all our provider of unconditional love.

Mark is survived by his other half of more than 30 years, Kelly Billman of Fox Crossing; daughters, Erin (Kyle) Salm of Larsen; and Brittney Billman of Appleton; grandsons, Maverik Mark Salm and Lane Salm; brother, David (Barb) Severson of Wyndmere, ND; sisters, Robin (Jeff) Bryant-Stoeger and Kim Czekala, both of Manitowoc; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a special aunt, Dona Gesell; and his best friend, Jan “Stick” Nichol.

Per Mark’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will occur on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Off the Wolf Supper Club 204 W. Main St. Winneconne. We ask that Mark’s friends and family please join us to raise a glass to the man who has meant so much to so many of us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mark’s name to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 315, W2880 Oakridge Dr, Appleton, WI 54915.

Mueller Funeral Home-Winneconne is assisting the family. If you wish, please submit online condolences/memories to muellerfh.net.
